The Philippine Cultural Foundation is proud to present “Ana Maria”, a Filipino Zarzuela, at PhilFest 2012 at the Bayanihan Arts and Events Center on Saturday, March 31 at 2:00 PM and Sunday, April 1 at 1:00 PM. This comic Philippine musicale which premierred in the 1920’s was collaboration by Filipino composer and national artist Antonio Molina (1894-1980) and playwright Severino Reyes (1861-1942), aka Lola Basyang.
“Ana Maria” is making its way to the Tampa audience on PhilFest by Rhovi Anne Allado and Jeanette Pangilinan as Anang, Vic Omila as Timo, James Jamo as Don Pedro, Rose Demille as Dona Doray and Aga Villagomeza as Menggoy. This production is directed by Nhick Ramiro Pacis with pianist David Martinez, costume designer Joey Omila, stage managers Anne Bartlett and Catherine Alcivar and project chairmen Dr. Patsy Abinales and Olive Santiano.
“Ana Maria” revolves around the marriage of a husband and wife as put to the test by the evils of “sabong” or cockfighting which is a popular gambling game in the Philippines.
