Pandanggo sa Ilaw

Pandanggo sa Ilaw (Fandango of Lights) performed by the Musikong Kawayan Bamboo Ensemble, Philippine Choral Group (Connie Chanrasmi, conductor) and Philippine Performing Arts Company, Inc. (Joey Omila, Artistic Director and choreographer) at the Bayanihan Arts Center in Tampa, FL at the MK Annual Concert on November 3, 2019.

Musikong Kawayan Bamboo Ensemble, Philippine Choral Group and Philippine Performing Arts Company are all resident performing groups of the Philippine Cultural Foundation, Inc. where I am Assistant Cultural Director. These groups are composed of volunteer performers of all ages who wish to get in touch with their Filipino roots.

Pandanggo sa Ilaw is a timeless Philippine folk dance, allegedly originating from Mindoro. This dance of lights simulates fireflies in the night by balancing lighted cups. This was set into music by Antonio Buenaventura from Bulacan, Philippines with lyrics by Levi Cererio. I had the honor to arrange it for choir, angklung ensemble for PCFI’s cultural programs.
