The Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church stands out as a gem within the heart of historic Ybor City. As beautiful as it is historically significant, OLPH, as we call it, offers a meaningful refuge for a number of devotees composed of mostly Italian, Filipino and Latino communities in the Tampa Bay Area. It is also a perfect venue for religious rites such as weddings, quinceaneras and others.

Leche flan is a delightful dessert popular in the Philippines and, to me, it is Spain’s greatest contribution to my culture. I have always considered myself as a leche flan gorger but I never attempted to make it until the last holiday season, thanks to Google search and Youtube! However, I mistakenly used orange extract instead of vanilla but it turned out to be so much better. Masarap na pagkakamali, as our friend, Tita Isabel, termed it so I feel proud to share my recipe with you!
Such a magnificent display that belittles many affluent cities in the world – fireworks at 2015 New Year’s Eve celebrations all over Metro Manila made me wish I were home!
Happy New Year! Here’s a track of me and my friend, Vic Omila Jr., jamming Don Gray’s barbershop arrangement of “Auld Lang Syne”. Pretty appropriate post to say goodbye and thank you to 2014 and to welcome 2015 with joyful anticipation!
