March 18, 2011 – Went to watch Ensemble Mir’s “Bulgarian Music of the 20th Century” at the Saint Mary, Our Lady of Grace Church in St. Petersburg, Florida. Directed by Matthew Thomas Caine, the ensemble presented an all-Bulgarian 20th century music as part of the Saint Mary Church’s Winter Concert Series. The repertoire included works by Stefan Mutachiev, Claude Debussy and Todor Popov.
The concert was free although free-will offerings were accepted.
Caine, conductor and scholar, is also music director at The Episcopal Church of Our Saviour in Jacksonville, Florida. He has conducted several choruses and orchestras in the Southeastern United States and Europe among other musical accomplishments. He holds a Doctor in Musical Arts in Conducting from the University of South Carolina, Master of Music in Choral Conducting and Vocal Performance from the University of South FLorida, Master of Music Education in Instrumental Music from Samford University and Bachelor of Music cum laude in Church Music from Birmingham Southern College.
